Dogs have been humans’ companions for thousands of years and bred to achieve specific physical characteristics, either for looks or more practical reasons.
For example, the West Highland Terrier was believed to be bred from white Cairn Terriers. Used to hunt small rodents, they were designed to possess a bullet-shaped body and a tail strong enough to be pulled out of tight underground holes.
Based on the book, “Dogs of All Nations” by Walter Esplin Mason, Business Insider created an interesting infographic illustrating eight popular dog breeds before and after 100 years of breeding.
