The news of Amazon entering Southeast Asia via Singapore has taken this Sunny island by storm this week. The Amazon Prime Now app has been available for download since Wednesday (26 July 2017) and of course, we had to check it out!
Imagine having your dog’s stuff delivered to you within two hours? You will never have to worry about forgetting to order your dog’s food again.
What is Amazon Prime Now?
According to the app, ” Amazon Prime Now is a benefit of Amazon Prime that allows members to place orders for fast, same-day and next-day delivery exclusively via the Prime Now mobile app.”
For a limited time, you don’t need an Amazon Prime membership to enjoy the service in Singapore.
There are two delivery options:
- Delivery within a two-hour window: S$5.99 for orders less than S$40, free for orders S$40 or more
- Delivery within a one-hour window: S$9.99 per order
You will receive tracking updates via text message and can also view the progress using a map in the app.
Besides being able to shop on Amazon Prime Now and enjoy its benefits without a membership, Visa cardholders can enjoy S$20 off their first order when they enter “VISA20” during checkout.
For those without a Visa card, they can enjoy S$10 off their first order when they enter “10PRIMENOW” during checkout.
Both promotions require a minimum spend of S$40 and cannot combine with other offers.
Is it great for pet owners?
I downloaded the app and went straight to searching for my favourite pet brands, including those I only buy from Amazon.com.
Perhaps I was naive to think that it would make sense for them to bring in overseas pet products and work with smaller pet distributors right at the start. They will need more time to launch more products in general, especially since the pet category usually isn’t the priority of such services. Also, some of the slower-moving products may make more sense being on Amazon e-commerce instead of Amazon Prime Now.
With that said, they do have KONG, Purina and Pedigree (Yup, only two kibble brands!), Outward Hound, Earthbath, Pet Head, and Bags on Board poop bag refills, to name a few. If you happened to be buying something for yourself, you may just want to throw in a toy, a bowl, or some grooming products.
But if you ask me whether I will be spending my first S$40 on pet products on Amazon Prime Now, the answer is no.
No available delivery window?
Unfortunately, you cannot proceed to checkout if there are no existing delivery slots for same-day or next-day delivery. All you can do is try again the next day.
It seems like that’s the case for now as demand is high during this launch period. If you want to buy something, be sure to do it early in the morning!
