Getting Groomed: A Dog’s Life Pet Salon

Two weeks ago, I was invited to visit a newly opened dog salon called “A Dog’s Life Pet Salon”.

Mama learned over time to take my cue whenever I visit grooming places. If I feel bad vibes, I would stop dead in my tracks and mama would understand and bring me away. But when I like a place, I would walk right in and sniff around. This was what I did at A Dog’s Life Salon. I was greeted by two dogs; their fur parents, Ros and Maisy own the place!

The place was new and clean, and Ros and Maisy were really friendly. They greeted me by name and I licked them in return 😉

My groomer, Mo used to work in Hong Kong, and he was trained and certified in the States. This explains why he was showing mama more creative ways to cut my hair. As a conservative pup, I was praying mama didn’t choose anything too edgy. Lucky for me, mama was equally traditional and stuck to the usual westie cut for my face! As for the body, Mo recommended to shave me down due to my skin condition so that it could “breathe”. How does that work?!

Mama also spoke with the senior groomer there who recommended mama a series of eight spa treatments that he concocted himself with natural herbs. Apparently, many people swear by it! The hassle is that the treatments need to be done every three days.

What mama liked about this place was that Ros and Maisy are dog owners themselves, and are able to identify with customers who share similar issues with their dog’s health and behaviour. It’s definitely a place where you can feel at home.

Price: For my size, the price is $60 for full grooming.

Quality: 7/10. Mama was pretty satisfied with my haircut. I personally think Mo did a good job with my face! This place didn’t pull out all my hair in the ear, which some owners prefer. However, they also didn’t shave my butt and private area thoroughly. I’m sure this could have been solved by giving them feedback after the cut but mama only realised this when she got home. Tip – Always check your furkids before leaving the salon!

Service: 8/10. Ros and Maisy were really nice and sociable, and mama was allowed to stay there and watch me throughout the session. If you do not like to wait in the salon, you can also pop by any of the hipster cafes in the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood for brunch or coffee!

Do share your experience if you visit!

Hi. Would you mind sharing what brand of medicated shampoo did your mama used on you?

Hi Joanne, I no longer use medicated shampoo. Now I am using a paraneem shampoo made by Howlistic Life’s consultant 🙂

This review is outdated. Their groomer has left. A new groomer has just joined them 4 months ago and I am skeptical about this groomer’s skills. I have just sent my two puppies for basic grooming. Now I’m waiting for results.

Hi Shanie, thanks for letting us know! Hope you’re satisfied with the basic grooming. Otherwise, you can try the mobile groomer we are using now – Likeable Pets.

I would like to ask a few questions regarding Latte. I have a westie myself, and I like the way Latte look. Did u have to hand strip her? Her coat is not curly from what I see.. How do I groom my dog to look like Latte. I have been looking into Hand stripping but its really expensive. Is there an alternative? Cos my westie is also not a show dog anyway but I’d like to keep his double coat and str8 hair.

Hello! Mama doesn’t do anything actually. She just bathes me once a week with medicated shampoo cause of my allergies, then blows me dry and brushes me with a slicker brush. That’s it! You can also buy a bristle brush, it will make the hair straighter 🙂 brushing is the best way to keep the hair nice and fluffy.

Thank you Latte! However, when you go for grooming? Does Mama ask the groomer to clip or shave ur hair?

I go for grooming once every 1-2 months! Recently mama is trying to let my coat grow out so it’s just trimming to keep me neat 🙂 she has stopped asking to shave me because dogs use their coat to regulate their body temperature and prevent sunburn.
